Scheduled Blackboard Maintenance

7:00 AM Update – Maintenance has been completed. Blackboard Learn is working as expected.

Blackboard Managed Hosting has informed the Department of Information Technology that critical maintenance is required on the University’s hosted learning system. Blackboard learn will be unavailable on Sunday, July 2nd, from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. Please plan your work accordingly.

2017 Annual Summer IT Maintenance

Each year the Department of Information Technology schedules major IT systems upgrades and maintenance in early January and August to minimize the academic disruption of the University.  This year’s Summer Maintenance is scheduled to begin at midnight on Wednesday, August 9th and conclude at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15th.

Below provides the tentative upgrade schedule.

Wednesday, August 9 – Tuesday, August 15 Vmware Tool and Firmware Upgrade and test on all Vmware based applications
Wednesday, August 9 Banner Xtender Update – expect outages
Thursday, August 10 Blackboard Transact (Pirate’s Gold) Maintenance – expect outages
Friday, August 11 NetApp Disk Firmware Updates and Testing on all Vmware based applications
Sunday, August 13 Blackboard Learn Update –  outages expected between midnight and 12 noon
Monday, August 14 NIOS Upgrade on campus Infoblox DNS Appliances
Management and Backup Port Configuration on Infoblox DNS Appliances
Linux Upgrade CAS authentication for LUM5/Banner Applications – expect outages

Resolved: Blackboard is now available

3:30 pm –  Blackboard has resolved the issue, the Learning System is now available.


2:37 pm – Blackboard Managed Hosting is reporting issues at their data center. This is affecting our instance of Blackboard. You will not be able to access Blackboard at this time.

Several other clients have been effected by this and Blackboard Manages Hosting is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

As updates are received they will be posted here.

Resolved – Trouble Accessing Some Services

9:00 am Update – The problem has been resolved.


8:45 am – The University is currently experiencing connectivity problems.  Some services, including Banner are not reachable at this time.  University IT Services is aware of the problem and is working with our service providers to address the issue as soon as possible.

Unable to Sign-In to PirateNet

10:30 am Update:  The issue has been resolved and all services are working as expected.

9:40 am – The University single-sign-on provider is experiencing a temporary outage at this time.  University IT Services is working with our partner to restore services as soon as possible.

In Bound Calls to Campus Not Connecting

3:00 PM – Service has been restored.


12:00 PM – The AT&T service to the campus is down, no inbound calls are connecting.  University IT Services is on-site and has opened a Severity 1 ticket with AT&T and is awaiting a response.


Resolved: Blackboard is producing an error message

  1. There is an issue with the SSL certificate installed on Blackboard. Blackboard Managed Hosting is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime Blackboard is still secure and accessible. Please follow the direction based on your browser to access Blackboard:
